Ideas for Art: Splattered Paint Space Planets
Today, we’re creating a fantastic space scene using FAS Super Tempera school paint! Kids will love making their own colourful planets and a starry Milky Way background with simple splattering techniques. This is a great project for both tempera and acrylic paints.
What You’ll Need:
Black paper (A3 or A4 size)
Coloured paints (for planets)
An old toothbrush
A sponge or rag
Paintbrushes
Scissors
Glue

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Make the Starry Sky Place your black paper inside a box or take it outside to keep mess contained. Dip an old toothbrush in white paint, then flick it with your thumb to create tiny star splatters across the page.
Create Your Planets Draw different-sized circles on another piece of paper. Cut them out to use as templates or paint directly onto the sheet.
Paint the Planets Use a sponge or rag to blend two colours in a curved motion on each circle. Start with one colour from one side, then add another colour from the opposite side. The blending will give a realistic planet effect.
Add Texture & Depth Once the planets are dry, put them in a box and splatter contrasting colours onto them to create unique textures.
Assemble the Space Scene Cut out the painted planets, arrange them on the starry background, and glue them in place. Kids can even add rockets, asteroids, or aliens for extra fun!
This simple painting activity brings space to life with easy techniques and lots of creative fun. Teachers and parents will love how engaging and mess-friendly it is. Kids will be amazed at how cool their space scene looks – no two will be the same!
