Paper Mache Animal Piggy Bank:
Today, we’ll create a fun paper mache animal piggy bank. Kids will love this painting idea, and it’s a fantastic way to spark creativity. Let’s dive in and make some art magic happen!
You Will Need:
Large balloons
Paste or PVA glue
Several newspapers or tissue paper
Pipe cleaners
Thick art brushes
Egg cartons
Plastic tabletop or plastic sheet to cover the table
Steps:
Blow up the Balloon: Inflate your balloon to the desired size of your animal.
Prepare Your Workspace: Tape or rest the balloon on a mug or jar to keep it steady.
Tear and Paste: Tear the newspaper or tissue paper into small strips. Stick these strips onto the balloon using glue or paste, covering it with 3-4 layers.
Drying Time: Leave the balloon in a warm place until it dries and hardens. This might take a few hours or overnight.
Add Legs: Cut out individual egg holders from the egg carton and attach them to the balloon as legs using glue or paste.
Paint and Decorate: Once everything is dry, paint and decorate your animal. Encourage bright colours and creativity. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Create a Money Slot: Use a craft knife to carefully cut a money slot in the top of your piggy bank.
Tips:
Use a black marker to add eyes, tail and other details.
Ensure your piggy bank is balanced and can stand without falling over.
Paste is generally better than PVA glue for this project.
Allow sufficient drying time, preferably overnight, for the best results.
